Playoffs, round one

We went into the playoffs in first place. As is typical in this situation, we were playing the last place team. They, unfortunately, were last place more by shear bad luck than lack of talents or ability. We were in first place mostly by good luck, I think.

The game started almost on time, which was highly unusual, but a nice change of pace. I wasn't one of the starting players, because I showed up late, but we managed to score the first point, then the white team tied it up. 1-1, so far, so good. We then went on a 3-0 run, and had a comfortable 4-1 lead. These points were nothing special. I was running very hard (more so than in any first half of any game this season), and my captain noticed, and commented on it. I, however was feeling the ill effects of pushing myself, cramps, exhaustion, and generally inability to sustain my level of activity for more than about 1-2 points.

About this point, a timeout was called by my team, so we could regroup on an especially long point. We lost the point in the end though, and the white team scored again to bring the score to 4-3. I went back on the field, and with the black team (that's us) in scoring position, I called for Don to break left, and he did. I had a perfect leading pass for him. As he was running for the disc, he collapsed in agony in the middle of the field. He had pulled his hamstring. 5 minutes later, play continued, and we eventually scored.

Half time approached with us leading 7-5. Somehow though, the white team scored 3 unanswered points, and went ahead 8-7 into the half. At this point, it was getting dark, and we decided to call the game at 13.

We scored the first point of the half, and tied it up at 8. The next few points dragged on and on, with neither table able to convert on a regular basis. Their speed and height vs our ability to handle the disc proved to be a time consuming effort. With the score 10-10, which team in scoring position, we decided to cap the game at 12 due to impending darkness. Of course, the white team turned it over shortly thereafter, and we went ahead. I went off the field, and watched the next point, which took 10 minutes. There were numerous fouls called, mostly because of the darkness, but we did managed to squeak it out, winning 12-10.

So, we are going to the next round of the playoffs. I'm not sure who we are playing, but it'll be another tough game I'm sure. The games tomorrow are capped at 80 minutes though, so we won't have a 2 hour game like we did last night. I only hope we win.
