Lord of the Rings

Last night a bunch of people came over and we watched The Two Towers (extended edition). I was only 1/2 looking forward to it, because at 3:43, it was LONG, and the extended edition of The Fellowship of the Ring wasn't terribly impressive. After having sat through an almost 4 hour movie, all I can say is, "WOW." The story makes far more sense in the details. Some of the scense that were cut needed to be cut (1 or 2), the others definitely make for a much better story.

I had heard last week that the 3 movies combined had 2700 production days. I didn't think that was right, but Travis confirmed for me this morning. If one production crew did all 3 movies, it'd be 9 years before they call came out. Impressive.

From a movie making point of view, you can't help but be impressed by this endeavor. 10 years ago, this movie would have been impossible (at least not believable). Today, with computer animation, the correography, the ability to shoot in remote locations, and other countless little thing, the movies transport you to another world. It's almost difficult to imagine what can become of movie making given another 10 years.

Oh, and I got this nice new icon :)
