Last night, Spencer spent most of the night in his crate. I think he missed it. He came in to wake me up at 5am, though. That was nice of him :)
On Sunday night, at the fireworks, I was reminded how happy Spencer can make people. Several times, people walked up and asked if they could pet Spencer. Being a gracious dog owner, and not having a vicious dog, I said yes. Two moments stand out.
One was a kid of about 10 who wanted to pet Spencer. He asked, and I said sure. He walked up to Spencer and Spencer sat down. The kid started petting Spencer and then Spencer stood up, started wagging his tail and licking the kids face. The kid broke out into laughter and was smiling the biggest smile he could summon up.
The second incident was a couple of maybe 18 who were walking through. The girl looked at Spencer, said, "aww, how cute, may I pet him?" Of course. She pet him for 20 seconds or so, and then walked away as her boyfriend started to pet him. He was wrestling with Spencer, and just enjoying himself for a good 5 minutes (Spencer was having a blast too). The girlfriend had to come back and drag him away. I was amused.
It's amazing the profound effect Spencer has on people's lives, if only for a few minutes. He makes people happy by wagging his tail, licking them and being himself. Even when he's sad, and just laying there, he brings a smile to your face when he looks at you with those puppy dog eyes. Yay for Spencer!
