Yesterday was our 25mi brisk ride. I grabbed the GPS only to realize that I had forgotten to charge it AND left it on all night. Ok, dead battery makes it hard to use. I grab the backup GPS, mount it, and get 1mi into the ride before it falls off and lands in the middle of the road. I dash out in the road and grab it before anyone runs it over. I threw the GPS in my pocket never to be looked at again on the ride. Grrr. Anyway, 25mi brisk means running 6mi up front at an anaerobic pace before the person behind you takes off. We got about 1/2 way through and were averaging 17.9mph. I was feeling pretty good, not having ridding in the lead yet, and followed Scott through, ironically, Scottsville. He was ready to pass out at the end of his stint, and I took off a beast of a hill, dropping Scott. I slowed down for him to catch up, but to no avail. I took off again, through the hilliest section of the ride. When we got back, I looked at the bike computer, which had an average speed of 18.1mph for the ride. I broke 18mph on a 25mi ride. My previous best was 17.6mph on a 10mi ride. Sweetness. I may be able to do this century yet.
