I spent the last couple days interviewing people. The funny thing is that one of them will be my new manager. I've interviewed people for engineering positions before, but this was a new twist on things. I'm not terribly concerned with technical ability in my manager (though he/she should have some). Side note, none of the candidates were women, which I found a little odd. Anyway, we've had 11 candidates over 3 days, I got 30-40 minutes with each of them. 4 candidates were from the outside (though one worked here in the past), and the other 7 were internal. I have my favorites, but we'll see what happens. In all, I think it was a good learning experience for me. I don't think I'll get many opportunities to interview people at that level for a while, and I like the opportunity to be able to pick my future boss. Hopefully, I can get one that I can get a big raise from.
