Funeral recap

Thursday, I left work at noon to go to Chautaqua, NY, where Sam Thorndike had died. I left work, went to Lisa's, went to get a new tie, went to get Katia (a friend of Lisa's and Steve's), and Kayly (Steve's girlfriend), and headed down for the 2 hour ride in Travis' car. The trip took 2 hours, and was uneventful. We got to Chautaqua and headed to the funeral home. We were the first ones there, and the last to leave, as we were there for Steve (who I'd never met). After the wake, we all headed to Denny's for dinner. Nothing too exciting, but I did tell Steve he should put a story about his dad in the eulogy.

The next day, at the funeral itself, Steve gave his eulogy and had a story to go with it (I was happy about that). And I must say, after hearing all the people talk about him and spending a day with his family, I am sorry I didn't get to know the guy. He seemed to be a something to everyone, and always willing to give something to the people who needed it. I can only guess how much he'll be missed. It's hard to explain in words the emotion during the ceremony, and I don't know that I can do it justice, but I am glad I went. The whole thing made me reflect a lot on my own life, and what I'm doing with it.
